Synopsis
The Great Yokai War (妖怪大戦争, 2005) is a Japanese fantasy-action film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Takashi Miike. At a school festival, ten-year-old Tadashi is declared the Great Kirin Rider — which immediately makes him a target for every malevolent spirit in the country.
He is not brave. He is not trained. He climbed Goblin Mountain on a dare, stumbled across a legendary sword, and now finds himself at the centre of a war between ancient yokai and a destructive force trying to exterminate them. Ryunosuke Kamiki — years before his wider breakthrough — plays Tadashi with convincing wide-eyed panic. The supporting cast of creatures is drawn from classical Edo-period folklore rather than studio invention, giving the film an unexpected layer of mythology beneath the noise.
