Synopsis
Souleymane's Story (L'Histoire de Souleymane, 2024) is a French drama directed by Boris Lojkine — watch it online on iFILM. Souleymane rides a bicycle through Paris delivering food orders. He has two days before his asylum interview, and the story he needs to tell to get residency papers is not yet the one he is prepared to give.
Lojkine shoots with near-documentary closeness: the camera follows Souleymane through traffic, through night shifts, into the overcrowded room he shares with several other men. First-time actor Abou Sangare took home the Best Actor prize at Cannes 2024 for this performance; the film itself picked up the Jury Prize. Nina Meurisse plays the social worker who is one of the few people in Souleymane's orbit who deals with him as a person rather than a case number.
Ninety-four minutes under steadily tightening pressure. Lojkine doesn't editorialize — no pity, no speechifying, just a man on a bike in a city that hasn't decided what to do with him yet. Stream Souleymane's Story (2024) online on iFILM.
