The Great Game

The Great Game (Le Grand Jeu, 2015) is a French political thriller you can watch online on iFILM, the debut feature from director Nicolas Pariser. Pierre Blum is a writer in his forties, a decade past his only moment of fame. A casino evening introduces him to Joseph Paskin — no obvious job title, considerable reach — who hires him to write a subversive manifesto under a false name, designed to bury a politician's career.

Melvil Poupaud plays Pierre's slow drift from temptation into danger, while André Dussollier gives Paskin the polished menace of a man who has never once needed to raise his voice. Clémence Poésy plays Laura, a young far-left activist Pierre falls for right in the middle of a conspiracy he only half understands.
