Synopsis
"Carefree" (1938) is a musical comedy from RKO starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers — watch online on iFILM, directed by Mark Sandrich.
Lawyer Steve Arden asks his psychiatrist friend Tony Flagg to straighten out his unpredictable fiancée Amanda, a radio star. She ends up in Tony's office and falls for the doctor instead of her own fiancé. Tony tries to hypnotize her feelings back toward Steve, but bungles the session — the planted suggestion comes out as "hate him enough to shoot him on sight." What follows is Amanda stalking Tony through a country estate with a rifle, entirely in earnest. This is the most unusual of Astaire and Rogers's eight films together: Fred leans hard into the straight-man role, though there is one tap routine on a golf course that is worth pausing for.
