Synopsis

Chen Gui-lin is the third most-wanted criminal in Taiwan. Diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to make his remaining time count — by hunting down the two men ranked above him on the list and dying at number one. The first target is a straight fight. The second leads him into a religious compound where the control over people runs deeper and darker than any gang he's encountered.
The title draws from a Buddhist concept of three poisons — greed, hatred, delusion — and the film works through each one methodically. The cult sequence landed on shortlists of the most unsettling scenes in 2023 cinema. It's brutal in stretches, but the brutality has a moral logic to it.
