Synopsis
Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms (封神第一部：朝歌风云, 2023) is a Chinese fantasy action epic directed by Wuershan — watch it online on iFILM. The film opens a planned trilogy drawing from Fengshen Yanyi, a Ming-dynasty novel that is to Chinese mythology roughly what the Iliad is to Western storytelling: gods, demons, and mortals locked in wars that reshape the world.
The trouble begins when Prince Yin Zhou accidentally wakes a fox spirit, which takes possession of a dead woman's body and starts bending the court to its will. Emperors fall. A usurper rises. The immortals of Mount Kunlun respond by sending a weapon into the mortal world — the List of Gods — guarded by Jiang Ziya, Nezha, and Erlang. Yu Shi, Li Xueqian, and Huang Bo lead a large ensemble through battles built at a scale Chinese blockbusters rarely attempt.
