The Weasel's Tale

The Weasel's Tale (El cuento de las comadrejas, 2019) is an Argentine-Spanish dark comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Juan José Campanella, who earlier took home the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film with The Secret in Their Eyes.

An ageing film star named Mara Ortiz lives in reclusive splendour in a country estate outside Buenos Aires, surrounded by three old companions: the actor who married her, the sardonic screenwriter, and the cynical director who put her on screen. They share meals, grievances and a great deal of history.

Then a young couple arrives at the gate, posing as devoted fans but quietly scheming to acquire the property. They miscalculate who they are dealing with. Graciela Borges, Oscar Martínez, Luis Brandoni and Marcos Mundstock play the four veterans with a chemistry that makes the film's tonal shift — from drawing-room comedy to something sharper and colder — feel completely earned.
