Synopsis
Silenced (도가니, 2011) is a Korean drama from Hwang Dong-hyuk — years before he made Squid Game — and you can watch online on iFILM. A hard, unsparing film drawn from what really happened inside a school for deaf children.
Art teacher Kang In-ho (Gong Yoo) leaves Seoul for the foggy town of Mujin to take a job at a school for the hearing-impaired. He's a single father who needs the salary for his sick daughter, so at first he lets the odd details slide. But the kids flinch, the headmaster and staff are too polished, and the bruises and silences add up to something he can't keep ignoring. With Seo Yu-jin (Jung Yu-mi), a worker at a local human-rights center, he sets out to drag the truth into the open — against money, the church and a town that closes ranks.
Adapted from Gong Ji-young's novel about the real Gwangju Inhwa School case, the film hit such a public nerve that South Korea revised the statute of limitations on crimes against children — the change became known as the "Dogani Law." It's for viewers ready for a brutal social drama that actually rewrote the law. Stream Silenced (2011) online on iFILM.
