Synopsis
A Wonderful World (Un mundo maravilloso, 2006) is a Mexican satirical tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. A homeless man named Juan Pérez crawls into an ATM booth to keep warm and accidentally becomes the face of the fight against poverty, which delights officials desperate for flattering numbers.
The government's solution is simple: declare that poor people no longer exist. Juan gets scrubbed, dressed up and paraded as living proof of an economic miracle, even though all he really wants is to be left alone in his cardboard paradise. Damián Alcázar plays the wily drifter with such deadpan charm that you laugh and ache at once. Director Luis Estrada builds a sharp fable about statistics steamrolling reality.
This is the middle chapter of Estrada's loose satirical trilogy on Mexican politics, sitting between Herod's Law and El Infierno. The film skewers neoliberal slogans and official hypocrisy without losing its human warmth. A great fit if you like biting social satire from Latin American cinema that refuses to look away.
