Synopsis
Swing Kids (2018) is a South Korean war drama you can watch online on iFILM. The setting is the Geoje prisoner-of-war camp, 1951, where American soldier Jackson — played by Broadway tap dancer Jared Grimes — is tasked with putting together a dance troupe for an ideological show aimed at foreign journalists.
The target recruit is Ro Ki-su, the most defiant North Korean in the camp, played by Do Kyung-soo (D.O. from EXO). Ro joins for his own reasons. The troupe fills out: a Chinese collaborator, a scrawny teenager, a volatile brawler. Every rehearsal happens in a camp split along ideological lines where choosing a dance partner is already a political statement.
Director Kang Hyeong-cheol refuses to stay in one gear. Slapstick gives way to genuine violence without warning. That tonal whiplash is deliberate — this is a film that knows how strange and terrible it is that people tap-dance in a war zone. Stream Swing Kids (2018) online on iFILM.
