Synopsis
Welcome to Dongmakgol (웰컴 투 동막골, 2005) is a South Korean war comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Park Kwang-hyeon and based on Jang Jin's hit stage play, the film drops soldiers from opposite sides of the Korean War — North Korean troops, South Korean fighters, and an American pilot who fell out of the sky — into a remote mountain village where nobody has ever heard a gunshot.
The villagers don't understand why their guests keep reaching for weapons. The soldiers can't figure out how people this innocent still exist. That collision between the logic of war and the logic of ordinary life is where the film does its best work: funny in one scene, genuinely affecting in the next. Jung Jae-young and Shin Ha-kyun lead the cast through 133 minutes that never settle into easy sentiment.
