Synopsis
Generation Iron (2013) is a bodybuilding documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director Vlad Yudin spends a full year trailing the seven strongest competitors on the planet as they push toward the 2012 Mr. Olympia stage.
The spine of the film is the clash between reigning champion Phil Heath and his fiercest challenger, Kai Greene. One is methodical and surgical; the other treats the sport like a street artist treats a canvas — and that contrast is what carries the whole thing. Between training sessions come diets measured by the gram, sleepless nights, talks with family and coaches, and money that turns out to be far thinner than outsiders assume. Mickey Rourke's narration sets the tone, while Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno appear to mark where all of this began.
Yudin built it as a deliberate heir to 1977's Pumping Iron, but he skips the nostalgia: modern bodybuilding is framed as a profession with a real cost to body and mind. The film plays fair both with gym diehards and with viewers who see only muscle in these men. Stream Generation Iron (2013) online on iFILM.
