Unknown Origins

Unknown Origins (Orígenes secretos, 2020) is a Spanish thriller you can watch online on iFILM. A serial killer is loose in Madrid, and every body he leaves behind is staged to copy the very first comic-book appearance of a famous superhero.

The case lands on Cosme, a police inspector days from retirement, paired with the burnt-out detective David Valentín. The break they need comes from an odd place: a comic shop. Cosme's own son Jorge Elías, a sharp young geek who runs the store, can read the murders like panels on a page and guess which hero the killer plans to imitate next. Each crime scene turns the investigation into a deadly trivia quiz only a true fan can pass.

Director David Galán Galindo blends a grim police procedural with open love for superhero lore, so the manhunt unfolds between debates about Batman and Superman origins. Javier Rey, Verónica Echegui and Brays Efe lead the cast. It's a good pick if you want a crime story that takes its mystery seriously but never takes itself too seriously.
