Synopsis
Djam (2017) — released in some markets as Journey from Greece — is a music road film from Tony Gatlif you can watch online on iFILM. The setup is deceptively simple: Djam (Daphne Patakia), a young Greek woman living on Mytilene, travels to Istanbul on her uncle's errand — he needs a rare part to fix his boat. The uncle, Kakourgos (Simon Abkarian), is a former sailor whose whole world revolves around rebetiko, the Greek port-town blues.
Istanbul delivers an unexpected passenger: Avril (Maryne Cayon), a 19-year-old French volunteer who came to help Syrian refugees and ended up stranded and penniless. Their trip back to Mytilene becomes something looser — encounters, music, small generosities, the Aegean light. Gatlif (Best Director at Cannes for Exils in 2004) builds films the way musicians play a session: feel first, structure second. Stream Djam online on iFILM.
