Synopsis
Omar (عُمَرْ, 2012) is a Qatari-Saudi historical epic you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Hatim Ali. The series chronicles the life of Umar ibn al-Khattab — one of early Islam's most consequential figures — across the turbulent opening decades of the 7th century.
Umar begins as a fierce opponent of Muhammad's message, a Quraysh tribesman ready to silence the new religion by force. His conversion — triggered by hearing Quranic verses his sister had been secretly reading — becomes the dramatic turning point. From there the series follows him as a companion of the Prophet, a battlefield commander, and eventually the second caliph, whose rule pushed the young Islamic state into Persia and Byzantine Syria.
Produced with Qatari television backing, the show is notable for its battle sequences and the period detail in its sets and costumes. A substantial watch for viewers drawn to the political and religious history of the early medieval Arabian Peninsula. Stream Omar (2012) online on iFILM.
