Synopsis
The Reckoning (2021) is a British-American horror drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Neil Marshall — known for The Descent and Doomsday — drops audiences into England at the height of the 1665 plague, when fear made witch-hunting a convenient tool of power.
Young widow Grace, played by Charlotte Kirk, is still mourning her husband when her landlord decides her grief makes her vulnerable to his demands. She refuses. He responds by accusing her of witchcraft. Her child is taken. She's thrown in a cell to await England's most feared inquisitor, Moorcroft — played by Sean Pertwee — who happens to be the same man who burned her mother years earlier. What follows is a slow, grinding ordeal of interrogation and torture, and as the pressure mounts, something in Grace's mind begins to fracture — the devil creeping in, or trauma doing its worst work.
Marshall keeps the film grounded in bodily pain rather than supernatural spectacle, which makes it harder to watch and more disturbing for it. Stream The Reckoning online on iFILM.
