Dior hides his sister from the Gestapo while sewing gowns for Wehrmacht officers' wives. Chanel finds a more direct accommodation with the occupiers. The ten-episode series runs from the occupation through to the first postwar collections, ending at the 1947 show where Harper's Bazaar editor Carmel Snow coined the phrase in the room. Shot partly on location in Paris, it sits at an unusual crossroads: wartime thriller, fashion history, and a portrait of people who chose beauty as a form of resistance — or survival, or both.
