Synopsis
Blame It on Rio (1984) is an American romantic comedy directed by Stanley Donen — watch online on iFILM. Two middle-aged friends take their teenage daughters to Rio de Janeiro for a holiday. One of them, Matthew (Michael Caine), starts an affair with his best friend's daughter Jennifer. Then tries to keep it secret from everyone, including his own daughter Nicole — played by a young Demi Moore — who begins to piece things together.
The film is an adaptation of the 1977 French comedy Un moment d'égarement, transplanted to the heat and carnival colour of Brazil. Donen uses Rio as a kind of permission slip for bad decisions, and Caine plays guilt with more nuance than the setup deserves. Joseph Bologna is Matthew's oblivious friend, furiously hunting the "mystery man" in his daughter's life without realising he already knows him.
It is a film comfortable with its own moral awkwardness, which is either what you want from it or exactly why you won't. Caine carries it either way. Stream Blame It on Rio (1984) on iFILM.
