Synopsis
Bye Bye Birdie (1963) is a Technicolor musical comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by George Sidney. Rock-and-roll heartthrob Conrad Birdie gets his draft notice, so his manager cooks up a publicity stunt: one last televised kiss for a lucky fan on The Ed Sullivan Show.
The lucky girl is teenager Kim McAfee from a sleepy Ohio town, and her whole world tips over. Dick Van Dyke plays Albert Peterson, the struggling songwriter betting his career on the gimmick, while Ann-Margret's Kim made her a star overnight. Janet Leigh, Maureen Stapleton and a wonderfully sour Paul Lynde round out the chaos of jealous boyfriends, fainting fan clubs and one very confused small town.
Adapted from the Broadway smash, it's loud, candy-colored and proudly silly, built around numbers like "Put On a Happy Face." Put it on when you want energy and a grin, not depth. Stream Bye Bye Birdie (1963) online on iFILM.
