Synopsis
Human Desire (1954) is a Fritz Lang film noir you can watch online on iFILM. Railroad engineer Jeff Warren (Glenn Ford) comes home from the Korean War to the steady rhythm of the tracks. A quiet, worn-down man who just wants to drive trains. It won't last.
Into his path steps Vicki (Gloria Grahame), wife of his co-worker Carl Buckley (Broderick Crawford). Jealous and going to pieces, Buckley pushes his wife to meet an influential acquaintance, then kills the man inside a train compartment. Warren happens to glimpse Vicki on that same train — and says nothing at the inquest. From there he sinks: the closer he gets to Vicki, the deeper he wades into someone else's crime, blackmail and a wanting he can't talk himself out of.
Lang adapted this from Émile Zola's novel La Bête humaine, turning it into a cold, illusion-free noir about people driven by instinct rather than ideals. Grahame is one of the genre's most dangerous women here — you believe her and distrust her at once. It's for fans of classic black-and-white noir who like their stories fatalistic and free of a happy ending. Stream Human Desire (1954) online on iFILM.
