Tokyo Sonata (トウキョウソナタ, 2008) — watch this quiet Japanese drama by Kiyoshi Kurosawa online on iFILM. Ryuhei Sasaki (Teruyuki Kagawa) is a mid-level Tokyo salaryman who gets told one morning his entire department is being outsourced to cheaper workers in China. He is handed a box. That same evening he sits at the dinner table and says nothing.
Unable to tell his family, Ryuhei puts on his suit and tie every morning and spends his days in an unemployment queue. His wife (Kyoko Koizumi) feels the wrongness of things but can't name it. Their older son talks quietly about enlisting in the US Army. The younger one is sneaking off to piano lessons, paying with lunch money. Four people living in the same house, each inside their own silence — and each moving toward a break that will change everything.
Kurosawa frames it all with the stillness of a household drama, then lets the edges slowly come apart. It's the kind of film where nothing explodes, but the damage runs deep. Stream Tokyo Sonata (2008) online on iFILM.
