June 1942. Tobruk has fallen and Rommel's Afrika Korps is pushing forward. Gunn's tank battalion is down to one vehicle; he drives it deep into the desert to stay ahead of the German advance. Along the way he collects survivors from scattered Allied units — British, French, Sudanese — until they find a half-dry well. Then word arrives that a full German battalion is converging on the same water source. Gunn holds the position.
