About

Synopsis

Scandal (1989) is a British historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Michael Caton-Jones. It reconstructs the political earthquake that shook Britain in the early sixties.

London, 1961. Society osteopath Stephen Ward (John Hurt) introduces young dancer Christine Keeler (Joanne Whalley) to a circle of grand parties and powerful men. She ends up involved with War Minister John Profumo (Ian McKellen) and, at the same time, a Soviet naval attaché. Once the press gets hold of it, a private affair becomes a threat to the government itself. Bridget Fonda plays Keeler's friend Mandy Rice-Davies.

What lingers is the film's sympathy for Ward, treated less as a procurer than as the man the establishment threw to the wolves once it needed a culprit. Hurt is superb, and the chilly period detail gives the case more weight than any tabloid retelling. Stream Scandal (1989) online on iFILM.
