Synopsis
Carol Reed's Night Train to Munich (1940) is a wartime spy thriller you can watch online on iFILM. It opens in Prague on the brink of war: Czech engineer Axel Bomasch slips out to England, but his designs are worth too much to the Nazi war machine for them to let him vanish.
To force his hand, the Gestapo seizes his daughter Anna (Margaret Lockwood). The man sent to get them both out is Gus Bennett — a music-hall entertainer whose breezy act hides a British agent, played with sly charm by Rex Harrison. The chase tightens aboard the night train of the title, where a steady nerve and a good bluff matter more than a gun. Watch for Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne as the same pair of bumbling Englishmen they played in The Lady Vanishes.
Reed made this a year before he graduated to bigger pictures, and the fingerprints are already here: tension, dry wit, and a jittery dash to the border. Quick, light and smarter than it lets on — easy to recommend to anyone who likes vintage suspense. Stream Night Train to Munich (1940) online on iFILM.
