Synopsis
The Mummy's Hand (1940) is a black-and-white Universal horror you can watch online on iFILM. Christy Cabanne directs, and the whole thing runs a brisk 67 minutes — old-school chills with an adventure streak.
Two broke archaeologists, Steve Banning (Dick Foran) and his pal Babe Jenson (Wallace Ford), stumble onto a trail leading to the tomb of Princess Ananka in Egypt. An eccentric stage magician and his daughter (Peggy Moran) bankroll the dig. The grave is not unguarded, though: the scheming priest Andoheb (George Zucco) commands a living mummy, Kharis (Tom Tyler), who shuffles through the dark and strangles anyone who gets close.
This is the picture that kicked off Universal's standalone Kharis cycle, with three more mummy films following in its wake. The backstory is told through footage lifted from the 1932 The Mummy, tying it straight back to the genre's roots. Fans of vintage scares and tomb-raider adventure will settle in easily.
