Synopsis
Camille Claudel (1988) is a French biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows the sculptor Camille Claudel, who at nineteen becomes Auguste Rodin's student and then his lover and collaborator.
Isabelle Adjani plays Camille as a woman whose work in clay and whose passion for Rodin burn from the same source. Gérard Depardieu is her Rodin — generous, self-serving, unwilling to leave his longtime partner. When the affair collapses, Camille is left facing a world that forgives a woman neither her gift nor her independence, and the ground gives way beneath her.
Cinematographer Bruno Nuytten's directing debut is shot with the tactile grit of the studio: dust, marble, wet clay under the fingernails. Adjani's performance took the César for Best Actress and an Oscar nomination, while the film itself claimed several more Césars, Best Film among them. At nearly three hours it rewards anyone who loves towering lead performances and stories about what art costs. Stream Camille Claudel (1988) online on iFILM.
