Synopsis
Orca (1977) is a revenge-at-sea horror thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Captain Nolan hunts the ocean's biggest animals for profit, until a single botched kill turns one of them against him.
Trying to capture a killer whale, Nolan instead harpoons a pregnant female and her calf. The bull witnesses it all, and from that moment he hounds the boats off Newfoundland, smashing the harbor and picking off the people closest to the captain. Richard Harris plays Nolan as a man dragged toward his own reckoning by guilt; Charlotte Rampling is the marine biologist who reads the animal's intelligence long before anyone listens. The chase pulls them all out onto open ice, where the whale holds every advantage.
Directed by Michael Anderson, the film is carried by Ennio Morricone's mournful score, which gives it a strange tenderness most Jaws-era creature features never bothered with. Bleak, surprisingly sad, and unafraid to root for the animal. Stream Orca (1977) online on iFILM.
