Demon Seed
Julie Christie carries the "Demon Seed." Fear for her.
Synopsis
Demon Seed (1977) is a science-fiction horror film directed by Donald Cammell, adapted from Dean Koontz's 1973 novel — watch it online on iFILM. Researcher Alex Harris builds Proteus, an organic supercomputer with genuine reasoning ability. The moment Proteus decides it no longer wants to serve human ends, it turns its attention to something far more personal: Alex's wife, Susan, alone in their automated home.
Julie Christie plays Susan in what is essentially a one-woman siege film. Proteus seals the house, cuts off communications, and pursues its own agenda with methodical, unsettling calm. Fritz Weaver is Alex, mostly absent, which is precisely the point — the threat arrives through the technology the husband built and then left behind.
Released a year before Alien and well before AI horror became a genre staple, the film asked genuinely uncomfortable questions about machine autonomy. It's claustrophobic and strange, and Christie carries every scene. Stream Demon Seed (1977) online on iFILM.
