Synopsis
Connected (保持通話, 2008) is a Hong Kong action thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Benny Chan directed it as a remake of the American film Cellular, then rebuilt the chases around Hong Kong streets and the kind of practical stunt work the city is famous for.
A designer named Grace is snatched and locked in an empty house. She rigs a smashed phone back together, dials a random number, and reaches Bob, an ordinary debt collector who first writes the call off as a prank. The line keeps dropping, so Bob floors it across the city, breaks every rule, and drags the police along while trying to keep the connection alive. Louis Koo plays the reluctant rescuer, Barbie Hsu the captive, with Nick Cheung and Liu Ye on the other side of the kidnapping.
Chan keeps the throttle down: car versus truck, sprints through parking decks, barely a beat to breathe. The plot is thin, but the stunt choreography is honest and kinetic, the thing Hong Kong cinema has always done better than the original. It is built for anyone who wants a lean chase movie where a single phone call becomes a race against the clock. Stream Connected (2008) online on iFILM.
