Synopsis
The Officers' Ward (La Chambre des officiers, 2001) is a French wartime drama you can watch online on iFILM. In August 1914, on a routine scouting ride, a shell blast tears away the face of young lieutenant Adrien.
He spends the next five years at the Val-de-Grâce hospital in Paris, in a ward stripped of mirrors. The wounded officers can only read their new faces in each other's eyes. There are almost no trenches. The war is the ward itself — the nurses, the endless surgeries, the slow and stubborn climb back toward wanting to live. Éric Caravaca carries it as a man relearning how to face other people.
