Synopsis
The Regime (2024) is HBO's satirical miniseries starring Kate Winslet, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Elena Vernham, chancellor of an invented European state, spends one year clinging to power as the walls of her palace quietly begin to crack.
Winslet's autocrat fears damp, mold and her own citizens almost more than a coup. Into her orbit stumbles a blunt soldier, Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), and her odd fixation on him soon steers the policy of an entire nation. The court around her runs on flattery, with Hugh Grant turning up as a bitter, poisoned rival and Andrea Riseborough rounding out the palace absurdity.
Directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs from a script by Will Tracy (The Menu), the six episodes swing between sharp political farce and outright clowning — cringe-funny one minute, genuinely sinister the next.
