Desierto (2015) is a stripped-down survival thriller from Jonás Cuarón you can watch online on iFILM. A group of Mexican migrants sets out to cross the US border on foot, through blistering desert. The heat isn't the thing they should be afraid of.
A lone gunman (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his Belgian Malinois pick up the trail. Self-appointed as a border enforcer, he hunts the unarmed travelers down one by one, cold and methodical. Moises, played by Gael García Bernal, tries to keep the survivors moving across bare slopes with nowhere to hide. From there it's a nearly wordless chase for breath.
Jonás Cuarón, who wrote the script with his father Alfonso Cuarón, keeps everything brutally simple: barely any dialogue, real desert locations, the constant sense of a scope trained on your back. Stream Desierto (2015) online on iFILM.
