Synopsis
Chef's Table (2015) is the Netflix documentary series you can watch online on iFILM, devoting each episode to a single world-class chef and the cooking that made their name.
The roster reads like a map of modern fine dining: Massimo Bottura of Osteria Francescana in Modena, fire-cooking Argentine Francis Mallmann, Buddhist nun Jeong Kwan, Niki Nakayama, David Chang and more. The camera lingers on plated dishes set to sweeping classical music, but it spends just as long on the failures, doubts and obsession behind them.
Created by David Gelb of Jiro Dreams of Sushi, the show landed an Emmy nomination for its documentary work. It treats kitchens the way other films treat an artist's studio — patiently, and with real curiosity. Foodies will love it, but so will anyone drawn to people consumed by their craft. Stream Chef's Table online on iFILM.
