Synopsis
Experiment in Terror (1962) is Blake Edwards' noir thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Bank teller Kelly Sherwood steps into her dark garage one night, and a hand closes around her throat.
The asthmatic voice rasping out of the shadows knows everything about her — her address, her job, the school her kid sister attends. The demand is short: smuggle a hundred thousand dollars out of the bank, or the sister dies. Lee Remick plays a woman wedged between terror and duty, while Glenn Ford is the FBI agent chasing a man he can identify only by his breathing. Stephanie Powers takes the role of the sister, a bargaining chip in someone else's scheme.
Edwards shoots San Francisco cold and emptied out, and Henry Mancini's uneasy theme crawls through the picture like the stalker himself. The finale in a packed Candlestick Park is still ranked among the decade's best thriller payoffs. This is slow, close-quarters suspense for viewers who get scared by a phone call rather than a knife.
