Synopsis
The Beverly Hillbillies (1962–1971) is the classic CBS sitcom you can watch online on iFILM. Dirt-poor mountaineer Jed Clampett strikes oil on his swamp and wakes up a millionaire overnight.
On a cousin's advice, the family loads up the jalopy and rolls into a 35-room mansion in the middle of Beverly Hills. All the fun is in the collision of backwoods plainness with California gloss. Jed (Buddy Ebsen) never changes a thing about himself, feisty Granny declares war on every modern gadget, beautiful Elly May keeps a menagerie of critters, and dim-but-eager nephew Jethro is sure he'll conquer the city. The banker next door just wants to keep their fortune in his vault, and pays for it in daily embarrassment.
Paul Henning's show ran nine seasons and more than 270 episodes, and its banjo theme, 'The Ballad of Jed Clampett' picked by Earl Scruggs, turned up everywhere. A very young Sharon Tate appears in a small early role. The humor is simple and good-natured, with no cynicism in it — comfort television in the purest sense.
