Synopsis
Jack Frost (1979) is a stop-motion holiday special from Rankin/Bass that you can watch online on iFILM. It's the same hand-crafted puppet animation behind Rudolph, this time spun around the spirit of winter who falls for a mortal girl.
Jack paints frost on windows and brings the snow, but no human can see him. Smitten with young Elisa, he begs Father Winter to turn him human. Father Winter agrees on one catch: by springtime Jack must own a house, a sack of gold, a horse and a wife. Trouble is, living as a person turns out far messier than the snow spirit ever imagined. The whole tale is narrated by Pardon-Me Pete, the official groundhog of Groundhog Day.
Directors Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. were the kings of seventies seasonal TV specials, and the voice cast pulls in Buddy Hackett, Robert Morse and animation legend Paul Frees. At a cozy forty-eight minutes, it's an easy family watch, especially if you grew up on retro holiday cartoons. Stream Jack Frost (1979) online on iFILM.
