Synopsis
Out Stealing Horses (2019) is a Norwegian drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Hans Petter Moland and led by Stellan Skarsgård. Winter, 1999. Widowed Trond has moved to the back country to spend the turn of the millennium completely alone — until he recognises the man living nearby.
He last saw that neighbour in 1948, the summer he turned fifteen. That season his father took him logging on the river, taught him to ride off on horses that weren't theirs, and quietly readied the boy for a disappearance he never saw coming. The film runs on two clocks at once: an old man in a snowbound house, a teenager beside a summer river. One slowly explains the other.
Adapted from Per Petterson's novel, a bestseller across dozens of countries, the movie lets landscape do the talking — long takes of forest, water and silence carry more weight than dialogue. Skarsgård acts mostly with his face, barely a line wasted. If you go for Nordic cinema about memory, guilt and the things fathers never say, this one will sit with you.
