Synopsis
Apache (1954) is Robert Aldrich's western led by Burt Lancaster, and you can watch it online on iFILM. After Geronimo surrenders, one warrior refuses to lay down his rifle.
Captured and slated for shipment to a Florida reservation, Massai (Lancaster) breaks free en route and makes the long journey home alone. Trackers stay on his trail, but his real fight is for something quieter than revenge — the right to live on his own terms and farm the land beside the woman he loves (Jean Peters). A young Charles Bronson turns up in an early role.
Aldrich directed one of Hollywood's first westerns to treat its Apache lead as a man with a cause rather than a faceless enemy, a bold pivot for 1954. The studio softened the ending over the director's objections, yet the film still plays like a quiet act of defiance. For anyone who likes their classic westerns with a conscience, it's worth the watch. Stream Apache (1954) online on iFILM.
