Synopsis
North to Alaska (1960) is Henry Hathaway's gold-rush comedy western starring John Wayne, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Prospectors Sam and George have finally hit a rich vein, so the lovestruck George sends his partner down to Seattle to fetch mining gear — and the girl he plans to marry.
There's a snag: the fiancée has already wed someone else. Rather than break his friend's heart, Sam comes back with Angel (Capucine), a dance-hall beauty meant as a consolation prize. The plan tangles fast, and the confirmed bachelor finds himself getting jealous in spite of everything. Stewart Granger plays George, teen idol Fabian turns up as his younger brother, and comic Ernie Kovacs steals scenes as a slippery con man circling all that gold.
Adapted from a stage play by László Fodor, it's loose, sunny Hathaway filmmaking — full of mud-soaked brawls, frontier hustle and a catchy title song that became a hit. Wayne is rarely this light on his feet, which makes it a treat for fans of old-school Hollywood with no grit under the nails. Stream North to Alaska (1960) online on iFILM.
