Synopsis

The story opens in the years after the Civil War, as a transcontinental railroad pushes straight through farm country. When company agents drive the James family off their land by force, the two brothers trade the plough for the gun. From there it is a run of bold train, bank and stagecoach holdups, hard rides through Missouri, and a bounty that only keeps climbing.
Directed by Henry King, this was one of 20th Century Fox's early three-strip Technicolor pictures, and it set the template that nearly every outlaw Western copied afterward.
