About

Synopsis

Watch Unforgiven (2013) online on iFILM — Japanese director Lee Sang-il's take on Eastwood's four-Oscar western, transplanted to the snowy frontier of 1880s Hokkaido.

Jubei Kamata (Ken Watanabe) was once the most feared swordsman in Kyoto. He killed a lot of people. Now he farms badly and raises a child alone after his wife's death. When local women pool their savings to hire him against a bandit who slashed one of their faces, poverty finally outweighs the vow to put down his sword forever. His former comrade and a loudmouthed young braggart take the job with him.

Lee Sang-il doesn't just swap the backdrop — he filters the story through the collapse of the samurai class under Meiji-era modernisation, giving the moral reckoning a distinctly Japanese weight. Watanabe makes every hesitation cost something real. Stream Unforgiven (Yurusarezaru Mono) online on iFILM.
