Synopsis
Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale — Part 2: The Rainbow Bridge (賽德克‧巴萊:彩虹橋, 2011) is Wei Te-Sheng's Taiwanese historical drama, available to watch online on iFILM. It closes the four-hour saga of the Seediq people's revolt against Japanese colonial rule.
The bloody rising at the mountain village of Wushe is over, and chief Mona Rudao retreats into the forest for a war he cannot win on paper. Hunters with crude weapons face a modern Japanese army with artillery, aircraft and poison gas — plus Seediq fighters from rival clans, turned against their own kin by the occupiers. The stakes run deeper than survival: only a warrior who falls in honest battle earns the right to cross the rainbow bridge to his ancestors. Nolay Piho carries the film as the aging Mona Rudao.
The story is drawn from the 1930 events that Taiwan kept quiet for decades. Wei refuses to make either side noble; the cruelty cuts both ways, and the price of becoming a "real man" is the near-extinction of a people for the sake of freedom. Sweeping, harrowing and beautifully shot, it will reward anyone who loves large historical canvases like Gibson's Apocalypto. Stream The Rainbow Bridge (2011) online on iFILM.
