Synopsis
The Warlords (投名狀, 2007) is a Hong Kong historical action film directed by Peter Chan — watch online on iFILM with Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro as three men bound by a blood oath during the Taiping Rebellion. General Pang survives a massacre that wiped out his entire army; two bandit chiefs pull him from the mud. Together they swear to fight, protect and never betray one another.
The alliance works — for a while. They take city after city, build a real army from scratch, and climb toward political power. But the three men want different things from victory, and a woman they all have feelings for makes the fractures worse. Director Chan refuses to let the war look glorious: the combat is brutal and the political manoeuvring is uglier still.
The film swept the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2008, picking up Best Picture among its haul. It is the rare genre piece more interested in how loyalty corrodes under ambition than in the spectacle of battle. Stream The Warlords (2007) online on iFILM.
