Synopsis
My Joy (2010) — watch online on iFILM — is Sergei Loznitsa's fiction debut, selected for the main competition at Cannes. Georgy drives freight into rural Russia on what should be a routine haul. Then he picks up a strange old man by the roadside, and the route starts to unravel.
Each encounter pulls him further from any sense of direction or safety: the old man's disturbing wartime story, a young woman working the highway, a group of homeless men who can neither help nor explain. Loznitsa builds the film as a slow passage through post-Soviet provincial Russia, where cruelty doesn't announce itself — it's simply there, part of the landscape, like the mud and the silence.
This is not genre cinema. It operates like a recording instrument: cold, precise, deliberately without verdict. Stream My Joy (2010) online on iFILM.
