Synopsis

Ichiko has swapped a noisy metropolis for Komori, a tiny village in the northern Tohoku region. She grows most of what she eats and cooks strictly by the calendar: mochi and thick curry to get through the winter, then rice seedlings and cherry blossoms once spring arrives. The warmer months also stir up thoughts of the mother who left her behind years ago.
Director Junichi Mori adapts Daisuke Igarashi's manga, and this second half of the diptych is meditative to the bone — recipes, fields, shifting weather, almost no plot in the usual sense.
