Synopsis
Little Forest: Summer/Autumn (リトル・フォレスト 夏・秋, 2014) is a quiet Japanese drama you can watch online on iFILM whenever you need to slow down. Junichi Mori directs Ai Hashimoto as Ichiko, a young woman who leaves the city behind and returns to Komori, the tiny northern village where she grew up, to live by the rhythm of her garden and her stove.
There is barely a plot in the usual sense. There is summer, thick with rain and humidity, and the bread she bakes, the tomatoes she coaxes from a greenhouse, the rice in the flooded paddies. Then autumn arrives with its pickling and preserving, roasted sweet potatoes, fish put away for winter. In between, Ichiko keeps circling the memory of a mother who simply left, and the question of why she herself came back five years ago.
Adapted from Daisuke Igarashi's manga, the film lives in its food: every dish is made on screen, field to plate, with no rush and no voiceover wisdom. This is slow cinema for anyone worn out by noise — a meditation on land, seasons, and the kind of solitude that work can soothe.
