The Nature of Love

"The Nature of Love" (Simple comme Sylvain, 2023) is a Canadian-French romantic comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Monia Chokri — who also appears in the film — follows Sofia (Magalie Lépine-Blondeau), a Montreal philosophy professor with a decade-long relationship and an answer for every question about love. Then Sylvain (Pierre-Yves Cardinal), a carpenter from the Laurentians, shows up to renovate her country house.

He doesn't read Plato, drinks beer instead of Burgundy, and doesn't analyse his feelings out loud. That's exactly what gets to her. Chokri isn't interested in tidy opposites-attract logic; the film is about how desire cracks a well-ordered life open, and what you're left holding when it does.
