Synopsis
Foxfire (2013) is a coming-of-age drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by France's Laurent Cantet — the Palme d'Or winner for The Class — from the Joyce Carol Oates novel.
It's 1955 in a small upstate New York town. Five teenage girls, fed up with groping teachers and the casual contempt of every man around them, band together. They swear a blood oath, ink matching tattoos and call themselves Foxfire. Their leader is the reckless Legs; the story is told by quiet Maddy, who writes it all down in a notebook. What starts as petty payback against the men who wronged them grows into a rented house, a shared kitty and far riskier schemes that test how far their sisterhood can stretch.
Cantet cast mostly unknown young actresses, and that choice keeps the rebellion raw instead of polished. At 143 minutes it takes its time — angry, patient and clear-eyed about the price 1950s girls paid for any freedom they grabbed. One for viewers who like their female coming-of-age stories without sugar. Stream Foxfire (2013) online on iFILM.
