Synopsis
School of Life (L'École buissonnière, 2017) — watch online on iFILM. French director Nicolas Vanier, known for Belle and Sébastien, brings this quiet family drama set in the Sologne region of 1930s France. François Cluzet heads the cast alongside young Jean Scandel and Éric Elmosnino.
Paul is a Paris orphanage kid with nothing but grey walls in his memory. He's sent to live with a warm country woman named Célestine and her husband Borel, a strict gamekeeper on a vast estate. The boy doesn't trust this wild, misty world — until he runs into a local poacher who teaches him things no classroom ever could: how to read animal tracks, how to move quietly through the forest, how to pay attention. Vanier shoots the Sologne landscape as if it has its own personality, which it does. It's a gentle film that doesn't push for tears — and earns them anyway.
