Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears (Москва слезам не верит, 1980) is Vladimir Menshov's beloved Soviet melodrama, free to watch online on iFILM. Three small-town friends arrive in the capital at the end of the 1950s, each chasing a different idea of happiness.

Antonina marries a steady working man and quietly builds a solid home. Lyudmila treats Moscow like a lottery, certain the right husband is the winning ticket. Then the story leaps twenty years ahead: that same Katerina now runs a major factory, successful but still alone, until a chance commuter-train meeting with a plain-spoken mechanic named Gosha (Aleksey Batalov) upends the careful life she's built. Menshov pulled off something rare here, folding hard truths about a woman's lot in Soviet life into warm, easy comedy — hence the tagline about the tenderest love story of the year.
